Newtown Action Alliance Statement on Donald Trump’s Victory in 2024 Elections

Newtown, CT - Po Murray, the Chairwoman of Newtown Action Alliance, released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s victory in 2024 Presidential Elections.

“Despite the outcome of this election, our commitment to ending gun violence remains unwavering.

‘For 12 years since a 20-year-old gunman with an AR-15 hunted and killed 20 children and six educators in Sandy Hook Elementary School, we have fought tirelessly to create a safer future for our children and families. Our bold and unapologetic work to honor those taken by gun violence has driven meaningful progress—from championing lifesaving gun laws, like the assault weapons ban and presidential executive actions, to securing the creation of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. We are fostering a culture of responsibility around firearms with safe storage measures and demanding accountability from the gun industry.

“Families directly impacted by gun violence have no choice but to endure. Their courage and resilience fuel our resolve to keep fighting for safer communities—for the lives of our children and loved ones. This cause transcends politics and persists beyond any single election.

“We will continue to collaborate with gun violence survivors and grow the gun control movement to support the gun safety champions who were elected, and work alongside them to push for the changes our country needs. Together, we will stand firm, advocate fiercely, and challenge any gun lobby effort that jeopardizes the safety of our children, families and communities.

“Our work is not finished; this is just another chapter in our enduring pursuit of a safer, more just America. We will push forward, demand change, and work tirelessly until gun violence is no longer a constant threat to our society. We invite all to join our fight.”
