Newtown Action Alliance Endorses Matt Lesser for Connecticut Senate District 9
Newtown, CT-The Newtown Action Alliance is proud to endorse Matt Lesser for Connecticut Senate District 9.
Matt Lesser was elected to represent District 100 in Connecticut’s House of Representatives at age 25 in 2008. His record on gun violence prevention has been strong. He voted to support 1) the comprehensive package of smart gun laws after the Sandy Hook shooting tragedy; 2) the Domestic Violence Restraining Order Bill, which takes guns away from domestic violence abusers when the victim seeks to protect themselves with a temporary restraining order; 3) the Lost and Stolen Firearms law, a law to fight gun trafficking and to get guns off our streets; and 4) and the bill to ban bump stocks in Connecticut.
Matt Lesser is now running for Connecticut’s 9th Senate District seat, which represents Middletown, Wethersfield, Newington, Cromwell and Rocky Hill.
After an anti-Semitic gunman murdered 11 Tree of Life Jewish congregants with an assault weapon, Matt Lesser’s Republican challenger Ed Charmut sent an political mailer with blatant anti-Semitic imagery. After years of a long-term downward trend of reported anti-Semitic incidents, the Anti-Defamation League found that there was a 35% surge in reported anti-Semitic incidents in 2016 and nearly 60% in 2017. Easy access to weapons of war will fuel more violence against the Jewish community.
Po Murray, Chairwoman of Newtown Action Alliance said, “We need candidates and elected leaders in Connecticut to denounce all forms of hatred, bigotry and violence. We must protect the smart gun laws passed after the Sandy Hook tragedy and do more to make Connecticut the safest state in the nation. Matt Lesser is needed in the Statehouse as Connecticut’s Senator to make it easier for us to pass other smart gun laws such as safe firearm storage requirements and a ban on ghost guns.”
